Summertime

Another flowery, summery card :) I've been thoroughly enjoying my time off from school - spending time with my kids, enjoying the beautiful weather, and crafting!
I am also happy because I got the news a couple of weeks ago from our principal that I will be able to stay on in my current position as secretary! Following the budget cuts in our district, I was going to be displaced my a secretary with more years in the district; it turns out she got another position closer to home, and so I get to stay! Wooo hoooo! Happy times indeed....so I have to make the most of this break - I return to work on July 26th!!

Something warm and something sweet...

How does coffee (or, in my case, tea) and a donut sound? I had a lot of fun playing with this Hero Arts "Have A Donut" set yesterday - I colored the frosting on the donut and then used some Paper Glaze to make the frosting shine :) Mmmmmm!

Happy Monday!

Here's a bright and cheery card for a Monday. We had a great weekend; everyone got haircuts (no more grey for me, at least for a couple of weeks!) and I got some stamping done so that I'm caught up on my assignments before our trip. While I'm away, there will be an Artful INKables Blog Hop (July 15th) and a TCP Blog Surf (July 21st - combined with TCP Tuesday), so I will set posts up in advance for those :) A little cat also told me that there might be a sale going on at the end of this week, so stay tuned for that too...
Today's card is one I made last week. I used a stamp from Hero Arts and some red, yellow and green paper scraps. The tag shapes at the bottom of the card are Nestabilities dies. As always, thanks for stopping by!

Nice and simple

Here's an easy and simple card :) I like the tall, skinny layout - it makes a nice change from the usual 4.25" x 5.5" card size. I believe this one is 7" x 3.5". The paper is by October Afternoon and the stamp is by Hero Arts.
Jamie had a follow-up appointment with the pediatrician on Monday afternoon, and his ear is looking all clear. He was relieved, because he knew if it was still infected he'd probably need a third round of shots. I have to get some drops to help prevent swimmer's ear while we're away on vacation next week; the doctor just wants his ear to get a nice long time to heal after this tough couple of weeks.
It's just 8 days until we leave for Maui. Nattie especially is counting the days - she loves to play on the beach and in the water! Jamie is so much more confident in the water now, so we will all be able to relax a bit more by the pool this year. Have a great Tuesday!

Birthday Card

Hi! Happy Thursday! The card I made for today uses stamps from Hero Arts ("Doodle Flower Patch" stamp) and The Cat's Pajamas ("Happy Birthday II" stamp). I used some scraps of "My Mind's Eye" paper and scraps of paper. The card measures 3.5" x 7". I really like the look of tall, skinny cards for a change of style.
We had some big thunder here last night! The kind that's right over the house! Some areas of Colorado have been dealing with tornadoes this week, though, so we're pretty lucky to just have thunder and rain. Have a great day!

Hi There!

Here's a card I made last weekend. I used my Swiss Dots embossing template for the white background, and then stitched the pattern on to the paper using Bazzill's In Stitch'z templates and embroidery floss. I added a little ribbon, a sentiment and a butterfly (Hero Arts), and voila!

Flowers for Friday

Here's a bright, flowery card for Friday :) I believe this may have come from a previous sketch by Jen, but I'm not 100% sure (let me know if it looks familiar to you). The stamps are by Hero Arts, and the patterned paper is by My Mind's Eye.
Our water heater isn't fixed. Ugh! The guy finally showed up at 5pm yesterday (so much for that 4-hour window), and after an hour or so decided that he needs his boss to come and check it out. It might be a motor that needs replaced, but our unit is pretty old and so in the long run it might be less expensive to replace the unit. We'll see what happens today - Iain's back from Phoenix so he's going to be home when they stop by. In the meantime, I've been boiling lots of water!
Have a fantastic weekend!!

Happy Wishes

Here's another card using an older stamp image by Penny Black that I find myself using often when I want to make a batch of "just because" cards. It's a great one to color to match any patterned paper (this paper is by SEI), and a girl with flowers - well, it's just such a versatile image for us cardmakers :) The sentiment in the bottom left-hand corner is from a set by Hero Arts.

You made my day!

Here's a card I made this past weekend. I used one of my Elzybells stamps; these images are so much fun to color! The sentiment is from a set by Hero Arts. The card is pretty simple, but I think that the patterned paper is so busy that a simple layout definitely works here!

How's your week going so far? The kids and I went back to school/work yesterday. It was tough getting up early again, but at the same time it was nice to get back into our routine. On Tuesday afternoon Iain and I went and ordered a pellet stove to try and heat the main level of our house more efficiently. It'll be delivered and installed on Friday. Our winter so far has been very mild snow-wise, but it was soooo cold out on the playground yesterday - especially when the wind kicked up! The kids kept asking, "Mrs. Armstrong, is it time to go in yet?", which is something I don't hear too often when they're busy playing outside :)

Winter Wishes

I was running a little short on holiday cards as I was writing them out this week, and made a few of this simple card to send to friends and relatives in Scotland. The image and sentiment are by Hero Arts :)

What are your weekend plans? I have to finish up some holiday shopping, Jamie is going to a birthday party, and I need to clean my house! This evening Iain and I are going to the holiday party for the staff at the school where I work - I'm looking forward to hanging out with everyone and being able to chat for longer than the few minutes we usually get! Whatever you're up to, have a terrific weekend!

Simple birdie card

I'm sitting here watching the snow fall outside; we have about 6" so far, and it's still coming down. It's absolutely gorgeous out there, especially right now when it is all smooth with no footprints or car tire tracks on it. The kiddos have their fingers crossed for a snow day tomorrow :)
Iain's on his flight from Washington, D.C. back to Denver right now, but I'm not sure if he'll make it back to the house tonight. I told him if the weather's bad just to stay at a hotel near the airport and then drive home in the morning when the roads will have been cleared a little more.
This is a super-simple card made with a bird stamp from Hero Arts, some bling from Prima (I think!) and some Nestabilities dies :) I've made a bunch of these to mail to our friends and relatives in the U.K. this holiday season. And thank you to those who emailed me for a holiday card; if you'd like one from me this year (and I'd love to mail some to my blogging friends), please drop me a note at toners@wispertel.net
